Practice Areas

Hartwell Law Group concentrates on three related areas of law. Each one concerns the protection of what our clients have built, whether that is a family, a home, or a business. Because these areas often overlap, our attorneys collaborate closely on matters that involve more than one.

Practice Areas at Hartwell Law Group

Estate Planning

An estate plan sets out how your property will be managed and distributed, and who will make decisions for you if you cannot. We prepare wills, revocable living trusts, durable powers of attorney, health care directives, and guardianship designations for minor children. We also review and update existing plans after marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, or a move from another state.

Probate and Estate Administration

When a loved one passes away, the person named as executor or trustee takes on significant legal responsibilities. We guide executors and families through the probate court process, the collection and valuation of assets, the payment of debts and taxes, and the final distribution to beneficiaries. We also assist with trust administration, which often proceeds outside of court.

Business Law

Small business owners face legal questions at every stage of growth. We advise on choosing and forming the right business entity, drafting operating and partnership agreements, reviewing commercial contracts and leases, and planning for the eventual transfer or sale of the business.

Where These Areas Meet

Many of our clients need counsel in more than one area. A business owner may need a succession plan that coordinates with a personal trust. An executor may need to manage a family business during administration. Our attorneys work together so that these plans remain consistent.

Matters We Do Not Handle

Our firm does not practice criminal law, family law, or personal injury law. When a matter falls outside our practice, we are glad to refer you to a qualified attorney.
